NMU swimmers earn All-American status

IRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team wrapped up the NCAA Championship on Saturday (March 9) and added two more All-Americans. Sophomore Molly Kearney placed sixth in the three-meter dive and sophomore Madisen Sechena had a seventh place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke.

“We had great night tonight to wrap up an awesome weekend and fun season,” NMU coach Heidi Voigt said. “We jumped up over 10 places from a year ago and I’m really proud of our three swimmers and one diver who represented NMU this weekend.”

The Wildcats finished 20th with 59 points from the Crossplex Complex on the weekend.

Kearney tallied 472.6 points in the three-meter to become a two-time All-American on the weekend and scored 13 points for the team.

Sechena finished in 2:19.78 to score 12 points for the Green and Gold.

Senior Gaby Alzaga (2:03.54) also competed on Saturday for the final time and finished 13th in the 200 backstroke. She scored four points in the event.
