The former Sara Lee bakery in Marquette is coming down.
Crews have begun to demolish the loading dock portion of the building.
The bakery closed in June 2009, and the Veridea Group of Marquette acquired the property in 2011.
Last summer, the real estate development group announced plans to turn the former bakery site into a multi-use facility.
The group was given the OK to move forward with its plan in the fall by the state and is currently awaiting a zoning permit from the city.
Once the zoning permit comes in, Veridea can apply for a permit from the county to begin construction on the site.
Once construction begins, their plan calls for multiple buildings intended for retail space, offices and residential space.
There will also be restaurants, financial services and entertainment.
