Multiple vehicle accident on M-553
Two people are in the hospital after a multiple vehicle accident on M–553 this morning.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened around 11:45 a.m., north of Stonegate Drive in Sands Township.
A Ford pickup truck driving northbound on M-533 lost control and crossed the centerline, hitting a southbound Mercury Sable head–on. The Sable was struck in the rear by a southbound Cadillac.
The driver of the Sable was extricated from the vehicle by the Marquette Township Fire Department. That driver and the driver of the Cadillac were transported to Marquette General Hospital for the treatment of unknown injuries. The driver of the Ford pickup truck had no visible injuries at the scene.
Safety belts were used by all occupants of the vehicles, and air bags were deployed.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Sands Township Fire Department, Sands Township EMS, Marquette Township Fire Department, Marquette General EMS, Medi-Ride EMS and the Marquette Police Department.
The accident remains under investigation.
