100 years of college recreation

The Physical Education Instructional Facility at NMU is celebrating 100 years of college recreation programs this week.

This is the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association’s 100th birthday.

The PEIF is marking the occasion with free or reduced-cost activities.

So far, that’s included free blood pressure screenings and body fat measurements, but personal trainer Luke Pease says there’s plenty more.

The PEIF has a member appreciation day today, with free milk and cookies.

Besides pickup basketball, weight training and cardio equipment, some other ways to get active there this week include Zumba, kickboxing and swim classes.

The celebration ends on Friday.

Anyone who wants to find out what the PEIF has to offer can try it out that day, free of charge.
