Student Euchre Tournament at NMU

MARQUETTE—Northern Michigan University students are invited to enter a Euchre tournament as part of the WinterFest celebration. The event will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center. Admission is free. Pairs are asked to register in advance by calling 227-3212.

Euchre is considered by many to be the favorite card game of the Upper Peninsula. It was brought to the region by Canadian, Cornish and German settlers. Now it is played throughout the region and is the “official” card game of NMU’s residence halls.

Cards for the tournament will be provided by the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center, which is sponsoring the competition. No outside card decks are allowed. Prizes will be given to the pairs finishing first, second and third.
