The Copper Kings are used to competing for championships on the field but the school is being recognized it’s achievements in the classroom as well.

The Public Schools of Calumet, Laurium and Keweenaw has been named an Academic State Champion by the online publication Bridge Magazine.

CLK Schools received top 10 recognition in the Rural Schools category as the #2 district in Michigan in academic achievement.

CLK was ranked 18th overall of more than 560 school districts in Michigan.

The school system was also awarded a State Championship with a #6 ranking in high school scores.

CLK Superintendent Darryl Pierce said being named an Academic State Champion by Bridge Magazine is a tremendous honor for the school and to be recognized statewide for academic excellence gives them a sense of pride in CLK.

Pierce added that the award also lets people know the quality of education that they provide their students.

The award was announced in the January edition of Bridge Magazine.
