Spalding man dies in snowmobile accident

A Spalding man has died after a snowmobile accident that occurred on Friday night.

The Menominee County Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened east of Kell Road in Spalding Township on the Cedar River waterway at 11:15 p.m. Friday.

Timothy Dean Graham, 24, was riding a snowmobile when he hit a group of trees.  He was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering head trauma.  Graham was wearing a helmet and protective gear.

Two other snowmobiles were in the group, but no one else was injured.

The Sheriff’s Department says speed, loss of control, and alcohol are contributing factors in the accident.  Officers were assisted in the investigation by an accident investigator from the Michigan State Police, Gladstone Post.

Hermansville Rescue, Rampart Paramedics, Spalding Township Volunteer Fire Department, Harris Township Volunteer Fire Department, Bark River Township Volunteer Fire Department, Menominee County Victim Services Unit, Michigan State Police Accident Reconstruction, Menominee County Medical Examiner and Hannahville Police all responded to the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
