Luge exhibit in Marquette

It’s easier to get through a U.P. winter if you can find something fun to do outside.  And, a new indoor exhibit might encourage people to try the sport of luge.  It has been a staple in Winter Olympics and in the Upper Peninsula is getting some recognition.

The Marquette Regional History Center is holding a luge exhibit through the winter months.  The exhibit showcases the history and impact the sport has had in the area.

Lugers have been training and competing on tracks in Marquette and Negaunee for 30 years, and some have even taken landed Olympic and World Cup medals.

Honored at the exhibit are Chris Thorpe and Wendel Suckow – well known Olympic athletes from Upper Michigan.

The memorabilia on display ranges from vintage sleds and equipment used by the Olympic medallists to old advertisements and documentation on other lugers from the U.P.
