Dealing with frozen plumbing
With the sub-zero temperatures the U.P. is experiencing, the possibility of having frozen pipe lines is increasing greatly.
But there are some preventative measures you can take on your own pipes.
Making sure there’s good isolation and heat tape around exposed pipe lines is essential.
Master plumber Daniel Mickelson of Hudson Mechanical in Marquette says keeping a small amount of water running through a faucet is a good idea because moving water is much more difficult to freeze than standing water is.
In the event that your pipes do freeze, never use an open flame to thaw them out.
A hair dryer or a heat gun are safe ways to go.
However, Mickelson says the most effective and safest way is to just call a professional.
