NMU ski teams in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Northern Michigan University Nordic ski teams raced in the freestyle at the Tour de Twin Cities SuperTour at Wirth Park on Saturday (Jan. 19).

Junior Jordyn Ross was the top Wildcat in the women’s 5-kilometer race. She finished 15th overall in 13:03.1. Rosie Frankowski also finished in the top 25, coming in 24th with a time of 13:16.1.

Freshman Hannah Boyer (28th), sophomore Elizabeth Simak (31st), freshman Mary Kate Sirelli (32nd) and junior Karmen Whitham (72nd) also raced for the ‘Cats.

Junior George Cartwright led the men’s squad with a 15th place finish in the 10K. He finished in 21:55.9. Junior Erik Soderman (22:00.3) was three spots back in 18th.

Senior Chris Bowler finished 26th while junior Ben Hugus (47th) and freshman Sam Elfstrom (57th) also raced for Northern.

The skiers return to Wirth Park in the morning, as the men’s 20K mass start classic event kicks off at 10 a.m. CST, followed by the women’s 15K mass start race at 11:15 a.m.
