Man falls through ice in Delta Co.
A Gladstone man may have learned his lesson about using caution when it comes to going out on the ice of Little Bay de Noc. Ron Trekas was riding his ATV near Butler’s Island by the Kipling boat launch site when he went through the ice.
Members from the Gladstone Public Safety, Delta County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan DNR were all dispatched to the scene. When they arrived Trekas was in need of assistance, he was standing on top of his four–wheeler that was underneath the water.
The Gladstone Public Safety used their rescue hovercraft to get Trekas out of the water and back to shore. He was treated on scene by Rampart EMS. His ATV was also recovered from the water.
Officials are urging the public to use extreme caution when out on the ice. Even with the recent cold temperatures the conditions are still very dangerous and unpredictable.
