Snowmobile attacker sentenced

A Delta County man is going to prison for more than a year for running over an ice fisherman with a snowmobile.

27–year–old Douglas Barbeau of Garden has been sentenced to 16 months to five years in prison.

He pleaded no contest to three charges: failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing serious injury or death, felonious operation of a snowmobile and attempted false report of a felony.

The incident happened in January of last year on the ice of Garden Bay near Ansell’s Point.

Barbeau ran over the victim’s tip–up with his snowmobile.

The fisherman flagged Barbeau down and an argument ensued.

Barbeau used his snowmobile to hit the fisherman, causing severe injuries, and then fled.
