Hockey clinic coming to Marquette

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Jinelle Zaugg-Siergiej (Eagle River, Wis.), a member of the silver medal-winning 2010 U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team, will conduct an on-ice clinic at the Marquette Lakeview Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 23. She will then speak to youth hockey players, coaches and parents upon the conclusion of the on-ice session.

The clinic will run 5-6 p.m. and feature players from the Marquette Wells Fargo Girls 14U team. Players and coaches are invited to watch the clinic. Zaugg-Siergiej will then speak in the Citizens Forum, located in the southwest corner of the Lakeview Arena, on the growth of women’s hockey and the Olympic experience from 7-8 p.m.

Zaugg-Siergiej skated for Team USA for five years, playing in a total of 53 games. During that period, she helped the U.S. Women’s National Team to the silver medal at the 2007 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship and second-place finishes at the Four Nations Cup in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010 in addition to capturing the 2010 Olympic silver medal.

She also appeared in two Under-22 Series (2006, 2007) and was a member of the 2009-10 U.S. Women’s National Team during the Qwest Tour. In total, she notched nine goals and 13 assists while representing the United States.

Zaugg-Siergiej played four years of college hockey at the University of Wisconsin, where she helped the Badgers to back-to-back national titles, including in 2006 when she scored two of her team’s three goals in the championship game. Upon concluding her college career in 2008, she was the programs all-time leader in goals (87), power play goals (29), game-winning goals (22) and games played (158).

A 2008 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Zaugg-Siergiej is now the head coach of the Arrowhead High School (Wis.) girls hockey team.
