Local history buffs and hockey fans alike will want to be in Hancock tomorrow morning.  ABC Ten’s Keweenaw Bureau Reporter Rick Allen tells us why.

No doubt the mild winter has taken its toll on the ice here at the Laurn-Grove hockey rink…but the warm temperatures have done little to melt the memories from here.

A panel discussion entitled “Outdoor Hockey in Hancock: An Oral History” will be held Saturday at the Houghton County Arena beginning at 10:00am.

The event features stories of Terrace Park…Hillside…and Laurn-Grove Ice Rinks—including the 1963/64 Laurn Grove Juvenile National Championship Hockey Team.

This is the first of a series of events to commemorate the city of Hancock’s Sesquicentennial…or 150th anniversary.

The discussion is free and open to the public but you are encouraged to stay and watch a full day of local hockey.

A ticket to the Hancock High School hockey game will also let you see games by both the Finlandia men’s and women’s hockey teams.
