If someone were to tell you to go jump in a lake, you might be taken aback by that.

But when the Northwoods Conservancy raised enough money to pay the 2012 mortgage on Seven Mile Point, that’s just what two of its supporters did.

To celebrate, volunteer coordinator Kate Griffith and a friend took a dip in the icy waters of Lake Superior at the site.

Seven Mile Point is located in Allouez Township in Keweenaw County.

The Northwoods Conservancy successfully enlisted 400 sustainers to pay an average of $10 per month to help keep the site from possibly being sold to private developers.

Now the push for raising money for 2013 begins, but with many of the sustainers signing on again for the new year, they’re already ahead of last year.
