NMU Hockey team earns multiple CCHA awards

FARMINGTON, Mich. – Three Northern Michigan University hockey players have been named Central Collegiate Hockey Association players of the week after the Wildcats non-conference sweep at No. 15 St. Cloud State over the weekend.

Sophomore forward Reed Seckel is the Postgame Offensive Player of the week after he scored two goals and was the game’s first star in Friday’s 6-2 win. The Melvin, Mich. native scored the game-winning goal, added an assist and was first star in the 2-1 win on Saturday. He also finished the weekend +4. Seckel leads NMU in goals (8) and is second in points (15).

Senior defenseman Kyle Follmer is the Gladiator Defenseman of the Week. He scored his first two goals of the season with a goal each night. The native of St. Paul, Minn. now has 13 career goals and 62 career points. He also blocked three shots and was +2 on the weekend.

Junior goaltender Jared Coreau is the Warrior Goaltender of the Week.  He stopped 21 shots on Friday and made 37 saves on Saturday for his 11th game of the season with over 30 saves.

NMU gets back to CCHA action this weekend (Jan. 11-12) from the Berry Events Center, hosting No. 6-ranked Miami.
