Name released in fatal snowmobile accident

Police have released the name of the man who died in a snowmobile crash on Friday in Houghton County. He is 41-year-old Roger Lewis of Houghton.

Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene after he drove his sled underneath a steel cable that was on private property he was driving on.

A Friday night snowmobile crash in Houghton County has left one man dead.

According to troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post the accident happened around 9:50 p.m. in Franklin Township.

Police say the victim,  41-year-old Roger Lewis, was killed when he drove his sled underneath a steel cable that was on private property he was driving on. Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to Portage View Hospital in Hancock.

Police say alcohol was a factor in this crash. The Hancock Police Department assisted the troopers at the scene.
