Driver in moose-car incident comes forward

The man driving a vehicle involved in a car-moose accident last night in Marquette County has been identified.  The accident sent one woman to the hospital.

It happened around 6:30 Wednesday night on M–95 near Republic.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department says an SUV traveling north on M–95 struck the moose and fled the scene.  That driver contacted the Sheriff’s Department this morning.

A Toyota Camry traveling behind the truck hit the moose as it was still standing in the roadway.  The 63–year–old Munising woman who was driving the Camry was taken to Bell Memorial Hospital for possible head and back injuries.

Assisting at the scene was the Republic Township Fire and First Responders as well as the Michigan Department of Resources.
