Power outages due to storm

Power company repair crews across the U.P are busy this Friday morning restoring electricity after the winter storm knocked out power to hundreds of customers.

A downed power line near the Shiras Hills Subdivision just south of Marquette briefly caused power to go out for several homes and businesses Thursday night.  The power outage also caused the traffic light at the intersection of US 41 and M-28 to go out, but power has since been restored.

The power outage affected Marquette Mountain Ski Hill.

Not only were lights out in the chalet, but a few skiers were stranded for several minutes  on the chair lift.  One skier told ABC 10, “We knew something was wrong when the chairlift stopped for such a long time.  We started getting worried because it was so windy.  A ski hill employee on a snowmobile reassured us that they were doing everythng they could to turn on the generators and re-start the lift.”

Emergency crews were dispatched to another downed power line in Marquette County.

There are also reports of power outages in Chocolay Township.
