Rollover accident sends one to the hospital

An early morning rollover accident has sent a Negaunee woman to the hospital.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office got the call just before 1 a.m. Sunday about a single vehicle accident in Sands Township, on County Road 480 just east of Seney Road.

Authorities say that a 34 year-old woman from Negaunee was driving westbound on County Road 480 in her 2004 Honda CRV when she lost control, and left the road way.

Her CRV rolled before coming to a stop upside down and submerged in a nearby creek.

Passing motorists stopped and called 9-1-1, and tried unsuccessfully to free the driver from her vehicle.

Once the officers arrived at the scene, they entered the creek and were able to remove the trapped driver from submerged SUV.

She was taken to Marquette General hospital by Bell EMS, and admitted for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation; it is unknown if a safety belt was worn or if alcohol was a factor in this crash.

The Marquette City Police, Chocolay Township Police, Marquette County Rescue 131, Negaunee Township Fire and Divers from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office all assisted at the scene.
