MTU Women's B-Ball wins at Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio – Michigan Tech junior Paige Albi  grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds, including four offensive, in a 70-53 league win at Tiffin Saturday (Dec. 15).

“I thought defensively we had a great game. Offensively we came out strong,” said head coach Kim Cameron. “We had a few goals coming to Ohio, and we met them. This week means a lot to us coming away with two road wins.”

The Huskies displayed their dominance early with a 10-0 run to start the game. The Dragons scored their first point of the game with a free throw at the 16:26 mark. TU would not make its first field goal until 15:23. The Tech lead would remain in double digits for most of the first half which ended 35-25.

Senior Sam Hoyt made three of the team’s six 3-pointers in the first half. She would finish
with a game-high 18 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the field and 4-of-9 from behind the arc. Hoyt also had five assists with only two turnovers.

Tiffin would close the Tech lead to 12 numerous times early in the second half, but Tech would extend its lead to as many as 25 with five minutes remaining. The Black and Gold out-scored Tiffin 35-28 over the final 20 minutes.

Tech shot 40-percent (12-30), while holding Tiffin to 29-percent (8-27) from the field in the second half.

The Huskies finished with 10 3-pointers in the contest. Tech held advantages in both bench points (22-7) and points in the paint (26-14).

Sophomore Jillian Ritchie finished with 12 points, and junior Taylor Stippel added 10 for the Huskies.

Jillian Adams led three Dragons in double figures with 17.

Tech (7-2, 5-1) will host Indianapolis in non-conference play Dec. 30th.
