Big Brothers Big Sisters Needs Volunteers

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marquette & Alger Counties is looking for volunteers.

The organization has 30 children in need of a big brother or big sister.

Volunteers are especially needed in Gwinn, Ishpeming and Negaunee.

Executive director Jayne Letts says ‘bigs’ meet with their ‘littles’ for four to six hours a week for a minimum of one year.

They can take their ‘littles’ shopping, to the movies or can even cook with them.

Letts says study after study finds that the children paired with a big brother or big sister have measurably better academic performance within a year’s time.

You must be 16 or older to become a mentor.

If you’d like to become one, you can call (906) 475-7801, and you can also find out more information here.
