MTU announces passing of Sheldon "Moose" Larson

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Long-time Michigan Tech equipment supervisor and coach Sheldon Moose Larson passed away at his home last Friday (Dec. 7). He was 88 years old.

Larson worked at Michigan Tech from 1966-86 in various roles. He served as rifle coach from 1959-75, assistant football coach from 1964-65, equipment supervisor 1966-86 and golf coach from 1975-80. The Minneapolis, Minn., native retired in 1986 but remained involved in Michigan Tech athletics. He served as the official timekeeper for basketball games until 1992 and he was a member of the Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Fame Committee and the Huskies Club until 2012.

Larson, who was inducted into the Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1992, originally came to Houghton in 1958 as a member of the U.S. Air Force working with the University’s ROTC program.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday (Feb. 12) at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Church. Visitation hours are 5-7 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 11) and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday.
