NMU Swim Team sitting in 1st place at invite

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving
team is in first place at the Calvin College Invite after two events from the Venema Aquatic Center. The Wildcats have a team score of 91 after Thursday (Nov. 29) followed by Indianapolis, Grand Valley State, Valparaiso, Calvin College, Kalamazoo College, Hillsdale College, Olivet College and Saint Mary’s College.

The 800-yard freestyle relay squads finished fourth and fifth in the first event of the day. The fourth place team consisted of sophomores Emily Brennan, Jordan Iverson and Emily Bourguignon and freshman Crystal Bennet. The fifth place swimmers were sophomores Tara Dowling, Aspen McHugh, Madisen Sechena and Debbi Lawrence.

Iverson (17:51.06) and Dowling (17:52.52) finished fifth and sixth in the 1650 freestyle while Sechena was 11th.

The ‘Cats continue the invite on Friday at 10 a.m. for the preliminaries and 6 p.m. for the finals. The invite wraps up on Saturday.
