Man injured in Ironwood car accident

A 64 year-old male pedestrian was injured in an accident with a vehicle in Ironwood Wednesday afternoon.

The Ironwood Public Safety Department responded to the accident on Cloverland Drive near Wimple Street around 4:40 in the afternoon.

The pedestrian, from Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, was hit by a vehicle driven by a 39 year-old Ironwood resident.  He was transported to Aspirus Grandview Hospital, and later to St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured, and released at the scene.

The accident is still under investigation, but alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor.  Further details are not being released at this time until the notification of the injured man’s family.

The Michigan State Police, Beacon Ambulance, the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department and the Hurley Police Department also responded to the accident.
