Family farm vs Forsyth Township: continues in court

A court case dealing with an Upper Peninsula family farm will be decided tomorrow.  That decision could close down the small family farm in Marquette County.  A crowd gathered at the Marquette County courthouse to sit in on hearing about the Shady Grove Farm.

Forsyth Township officials are taking the owners of Shady Grove Farm to court over zoning regulations.   Owners Randy and Libby Buchler believe that the farm is protected by the Michigan Right to Farm Act.

The couple’s representatives say they live off earnings from the six and a half acre farm in Gwinn.  They sell eggs from the chickens and wool products from the sheep.

The case continues tomorrow in Marquette County Circuit Court.
