Dianda upsets Huuki in 110th District
Voters in the Copper Country changed their mind this election. ABC Ten’s Keweenaw Bureau Reporter Rick Allen reports that the results were different this time around – even though the same two candidates faced one another.
2010 seems like ages ago. That’s when a wave of Republican support swept candidate Matt Huuki of Atlantic Mine into the 110th District seat in the Michigan House of Representatives.
But a wave of a different kind gave Democrat Scott Dianda of Calumet the momentum he needed to unseat the incumbent Huuki after he served just one term.
Dianda pounded Huuki with criticism of tax breaks to businesses…cuts to education spending…and new taxes on seniors and middle class families. The message was well-received by voters though the race remained close throughout the evening on Tuesday.
In the end…Dianda won with a cushion of more than a thousand votes. He now heads to Lansing to try and fulfill his promise to turn the tide.
