NMU V-Ball swept by GLIACs best team

MARQUETTE, Mich. – After defeating Hillsdale at home on Friday night, the Northern Michigan University volleyball fell to Northwood University on Saturday (Nov. 3) afternoon from Vandament Arena. The Timberwolves took the match, 3-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup.

The ‘Cats fall to 18-11 on the season and 10-6 in the conference, while Northwood improves to 22-5 and 16-0 to remain undefeated and in first place of the GLIAC. Northwood edged Northern in each set, taking the first set 25-22.  In the first, there were 10 tied scores, and four different lead changes before the Timberwolves were able to come ahead. Northwood went on to take the second and third sets (25-23 and 25-21).

Lina Lopes led the ‘Cats with 14 kills, with Kalli Herron adding six to contribute to the 38 total team kills. Kalin Zimmerman had 11 digs, while Suzanne Solin had eight and Lopes and Kellisha Harley each tallied six. Zimmerman had the lone service ace for NMU. Harley finished the afternoon with 34 assists.

For the Timberwolves, Tatjana Rajic led both teams in kills with 15. Julia Pakhomenko added eight with Zina Liubymova and Ally Hoomaian each with six. Liubymova also contributed 12 digs and Jordan Dunn had nine along with 31 assists.

The ‘Cats will close out the regular season at home next weekend as they face Saginaw Valley State University on Friday (Nov. 9) at 7 p.m. and Lake Superior State University at 4 p.m. from Vandament Arena.
