NMU Board approves labor contract

MARQUETTE,Mich.—The Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees this week approved a previously ratified contract for the Administrative/Professional union (UAW 2178). Trustees held a special meeting via conference call to finalize the agreement.

The university’s A/P union voted 106-6 in favor of the contract in late September. It represents 178 employees.

The agreement features base salary increases of 2 percent the first and third years and 2.25 percent the second year. There is also a $500 base increase for each employee in year one. The A/P union will shift to a new health care plan that includes adjustments to co-pays and annual deductibles. The required health care contribution per member will increase each year of the contract, accounting for a 20 percent share of total health care costs on an annual basis.
