GLIAC Soccer: Ashland shuts out NMU

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team lost its fourth consecutive game on Sunday (Oct. 14) to visiting Ashland University. In the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup, the Eagles shut out the Wildcats, 3-0. NMU is now 3-10 overall and 2-7 in conference play.

Ashland’s (5-10, 4-6 GLIAC) first goal came within the first three minutes of play on a shot from inside the box by Krista Lewis. Lewis would continue to dominate the net with another goal in the 18th minute. The final Eagle goal came at 58:10 off of a corner kick for a goal by Melissa Hill.

NMU sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Musi finished the afternoon with three saves on Ashland’s 11 attempted shots. Eagle keeper Rebecca Plescia had four saves, while NMU shot the ball eight times. Senior Amelia Johnson had three shots on goal for the ‘Cats.

Northern hits the road for the last time this season with a pair of games in the Lower Peninsula. The ‘Cats face Ferris State on Friday (Oct. 19) and Grand Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 21).
