KBIC absentee ballot deadline is Friday

Voters in the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community who want absentee ballots for the November 3rd primary election have until 4:30 tomorrow (Friday) afternoon to request them.

There are contested races in each KBIC District.

In the Baraga District, incumbents Jerry Lee Curtis and Warren “Chris” Swartz are being challenged by Michael Cardinal, Thomas Chosa, Jr., Robert Ellsworth, Ginnyann Jermac, Gary Loonsfoot, Sr., and Don Messer, Jr.

In the L’Anse District, incumbents Susan LaFernier and Eddy Edwards face challenges from Lyndon Ekdahl, William “Gene” Emery, Charles Gauthier, David Haataja,Gerald Jondreau and Jennifer Misegan.

The top four finishers in each primary will advance to the general election on December 15th.

Absentee ballots must be requested from the KBIC Enrollment Office.  When applications are approved, ballots will be mailed to the voters.

Representatives from the KBIC Election Board will also visit homebound Tribal members on Friday, November 2nd, to facilitate voting.
