Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame Weekend

On Friday nights in the early fall, most of us who are thinking sports are thinking high school football.

But in Ishpeming, the focus is on something a bit cooler.

The U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame’s 2012 Hall of Fame weekend kicked off tonight.

The Hall of Fame hosted an informal dinner for the inductees, their families and others.

One inductee, Nick Badami, a longtime head of the U.S. Ski Association, passed away in 2008.

His grandson Nicholas is in Ishpeming all weekend to represent him, and he says his grandfather would feel honored if he were around to see it.

Nicholas says he personally is grateful that his grandfather and his father got him onto skis at age two; he’s been skiing ever since.

A Kiwanis welcome breakfast takes place tomorrow morning.

The Coy Hill reunion golf outing is slated for noon tomorrow at the Wawanowin Golf Club, and the official Hall of Fame banquet is tomorrow night.
