Labor Day Parade
It was a celebration of the Labor Day holiday across the country and in Upper Michigan. In Ishpeming, the festivities started as the annual Labor Day Parade made its return.
A number of unions ranging from steelworkers to teachers participated in the parade. The parade was a way to celebrate the work of unionized employees in the area, in a wide range of fields.
The Marquette County Labor Day Parade was once held in Marquette, but was moved to Ishpeming several years ago to better tie in with the strong labor background of the miners who helped build Upper Michigan.
