South Beach Closed

It turned out to be a warm day for beach–goers in the U.P. today, but one popular beach was closed. It’s happened before, and it could happen again: E.coli at South Beach in Marquette.

E.coli can cause a range of problems: from diarrhea to urinary tract infections to death to those who swallow the contaminated water. The beach is closed until further notice.

And, Marquette officials closed the beach at about 7:30 last night, notifying the public through the media – and through the alert system NIXLE.

NIXLE is an emergency alert system residents can sign up for to receive emails or cell phone texts for health, safety or weather alerts.
