Great Lakes Research Forum at NMU

Northern Michigan University hosted a free public forum on Great Lakes research today.

The event was sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and covered topics such as lake evaporation, water levels, rip currents, ice cover and near-shore weather and marine forecasting.

Presenters included meteorologists from NOAA’s National Weather Service office in Negaunee, researchers from Environment Canada and various universities, and scientists from NOAA’s Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory in Ann Arbor. The group shared scientific knowledge on the Great Lakes, introduced research projects being conducted at Granite Island and Stannard Rock and received feedback from the community.
