There’s been no word on when residents of the Heritage Manor Apartments in Houghton can return to their homes.
A fire on Friday forced the evacuation of the building’s approximately 40 residents who were first taken to Dee Stadium. All but about 14 of them are now staying with family members but the rest are being housed at Wadsworth Hall on the Michigan Tech campus.
This arrangement is only good until Wednesday as students will begin returning to the dorms for fall classes this weekend. The damage at the Heritage Manor was inspected by the Fire Marshall on Saturday. A report on his findings is still pending.
In the meantime, donations of money and toiletries are being collected at the Houghton City Center. But the most pressing matter is what to do with the residents until they can return to their apartments.
