Ishpeming, MI—Cliffs Natural Resources, announced today the Company has adjusted its production plans for the Empire Mine in Michigan and would resume operations in early September.
Empire Mine operations have been idled in a planned,temporary production curtailment since early June. “We are pleased to be able to adjust our full year production, which will allow us to resume operations and bring back the Michigan employees who are on layoff,” said James Kochevar, general manager, Michigan Operations. Approximately 245 employees have been on temporary layoff since the production curtailment went into effect in June. It’s anticipated that all of those employees will be recalled.
