Names Released in Fatal Traffic Crash

The Names of the two people involved in the fatal traffic accident in Negaunee Township Friday morning have been released

Police say the deceased driver has been identified as 46-year-old Anthony L. Eagle of Negaunee Township. The driver of the semi-truck is identified as 56-year-old Robert J. Young of Escanaba. The owner of the semi-truck is the Upper Peninsula Concrete Pipe Co., also from Escanaba.

It happened around 9:00 Friday morning on US 41 East near the intersection of M-35. The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department says an eastbound motorcycle rear-ended a semi as the truck slowed to turn.  Eyewitnesses say the truck’s turn signal was on. The biker was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was not wearing a helmet.

In situations like this: where an accident happened near a construction zone, it can be extremely hazardous for emergency crews. And, police and medical personnel had some problems with passing motorists rubber–necking, disrespectful motorists and others who were inattentive.

Traffic near the accident scene was detoured from US-41 to M-35 and County Road 492 for about two hours after the crash.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by Troopers from the Michigan State Police
Negaunee Post, MSP Commercial Motor Carrier Division, Negaunee Township
Fire Department, and MGHS EMS.
