Following an E.coli scare over the weekend one Marquette County beach is now open to the public again. The City of Marquette’s South Beach has been deemed safe for swimming. Tests show the E.coli levels have returned to the normal range.
The sudden rise in the bacteria level was a surprise to officials. It is important for swimmers and beach goers to remember there is always some level of E.coli in the water, and although Lake Superior is a fresh water lake, it’s best not to drink directly from it.
