HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech head women’s soccer coach Michelle Jacob announced that Lexi Herrewig has recently signed a National Letter of Intent to join the team for the Fall 2012 season.

Herrewig was a four-time all-conference selection and earned conference player of the year honors her senior season at Winnebago Lutheran Academy. The Fond du Lac, Wis., native earned all-state “best of the rest” honors at midfield her senior season.

“Lexi is a very hard working goal scorer regardless of her position,” said Jacob. “Coming out of the center of midfield or playing anywhere up top, Lexi fights for every ball and makes great decisions on attacking herself or playing her teammates into position to score. With career stats of 123 goals and 39 assists she has the right work ethic and mentality to make an immediate impact with the Huskies. We were fortunate to get a chance to see her play late in the season and recognize that she was an excellent fit for our program. We really look forward to having her join the Huskies for our 2012 season as she pursues a degree in Exercise Science at Michigan Tech.”

An excellent student, Herrewig, who graduated 12th in her class, lettered in academics and was on the honor roll all four years.

Herrewig competed in cross country and basketball earning all-conference accolades in both and was elected to the Winnebago Lutheran Academy Hall of Fame for both basketball and soccer. She was the recipient of the United States Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award and was involved in choir and Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
