Large Cargo Jet Lands at Sawyer International Airport

A second Russian made jet has touched down at Sawyer International Airport in Marquette County.
However this particular arrival was planned and will be gone by this weekend.

A Antonov AN–124 cargo jet touched down this afternoon just before 1 p.m..
The aircraft is picking up 200,000 pounds of cargo consisting of four large cable reels that are used in the oil industry.
The size of the cargo and plane made Sawyer International Airport an ideal location to land.

The 17 person Russian crew will have a quick turn–around time.
They plan to drop off their cargo in a matter of days.

The plane is the second largest cargo aircraft in the world.
The wing span on the plane is over 240 feet and has a tail height of 68 feet.
