Rudyard Car-vs.-Bicycle Fatal Accident

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle and bicycle accident that happened in Rudyard Friday night.
Deputies say at about 6 pm that night, 88–year–old Mildred Forgave of Rudyard was driving south on Mackinac Trail.
Forgave saw two bicycles, one on each side of the roadway, going in the same direction.
Police say she slowed down and drove on the center line to pass safely between them when one of the cyclists, 87–year–old Max Mackie of Rudyard, suddenly tried to cross the road without looking.
Mackie hit Forgave’s windshield and died at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.
Forgave and a passenger in her vehicle were both treated at War Memorial for minor injuries.
Deputies say no citations were issued and alcohol was not involved.
