Update: UPPCO power outages

The Upper Peninsula Power Company reports that good progress was made throughout the night and early morning hours to restore power. Lightning and strong winds were the cause of the outages Wednesday night.

Currently, UPPCO says only 235 customers remain without power. Nearly 800 were affected at the height of the outage. Areas in which crews are still working to restore power include Escanaba, Ishpeming (200 customers affected) and Munising.

UPPCO reminds customers to be safe this morning as they begin to clean up their yards. Watch for down lines and lines that are tangled up in trees and debris. Also, the company asks the public to watch for UPPCO crews and employees as they continue restoration efforts throughout the day.
