Iron Ore Heritage Trail bike tours this weekend

The Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Negaunee Township will offer guided bike tours along the Iron Ore Heritage Trail on Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8.
 
The leisurely tours will begin and end at trailhead #7 on the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, and include stops at “Old Towne Negaunee,” Cliffs Shaft and the Jackson Pit Mine. Tours begin at 10:30 a.m. each day and cover approximately six miles.
 
A participation fee of $10 includes a picnic lunch and entry to the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum, featuring a rock room and artifact collection. (Sunday entrance to the Cliffs museum is contingent on participation of 20 or more bicyclists.)

The Michigan Iron Industry Museum is one of 11 nationally accredited museums administered by the Michigan Historical Center, an agency within the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). It overlooks the site of the Carp River Forge, a pioneer industrial site listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
