Power restored to most UPPCO customers

As of late this afternoon, the Upper Peninsula Power Company says there were about 300 UPPCO electric customers in the greater Houghton area that were still without power. Most of those were north of Houghton.

With every available crew working to restore power, UPPCO expects the majority of those customers will have their power restored tonight but a few may be without power until sometime tomorrow.

UPPCO customers in the Ishpeming area should have all their power restored this evening.

As always, UPPCO is reminding people to stay away from downed power lines or lines that have been tangled in trees. Assume all power lines are energized.

Customers arriving to their cottage or cabin who have incurred damage to their service connection or equipment will need it repaired by a private licensed electrical contractor prior to having their power turned back on. Typically, a tree or branch falls on the service line to the home and pulls the customer’s service pole/meter periscope away from the side of the house. The maintenance of the service pole/meter periscope is the responsibility of the customer.

Customers can call 1-800-562-7809 to arrange for restoration after repairs are made.
