Fatal Motorcycle Crash

On Monday, June 25th, Troopers from the Michigan State Police Wakefield Post were dispatched to the scene of a motorcycle traffic crash on M-28 near Sandy Beach Rd. in the Township of Bergland.

The investigation revealed that a seventy three year old male was traveling west on M-28 near Sandy Beach Road when a deer entered the roadway and was struck, The driver was thrown from the motorcycle, receiving head injuries. The driver was not wearing a helmet.

The driver was transported by ambulance to Grand View Aspirus Hospital by Beacon Ambulance, then transferred to Wausau, Wisconsin by helicopter. The man was pronounced dead at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.

The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Charles Matthew Evans of Marenisco, Michigan.

Wakefield Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Department, Bergland Fire Department and Troopers from the Calumet Post.
