State lawmaker hosting June 26 town hall

Local state lawmakers have invited members of the Michigan House Energy and Technology Committee to the Upper Peninsula to listen to area residents and businesses at a June 26 town hall meeting in Escanaba hosted by Rep. Ed McBroom.

The forum will feature Rep. Ken Horn, committee chairman, and other committee members, as well as local energy company representatives in the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay College, (may want to put in the room/building) from 4 to 6 p.m.

“This is an opportunity for people to find out what Michigan’s energy needs for the future are expected to be, where the state is at currently, and how we might get those two points to connect best,” said McBroom, R-Vulcan. “There also is the chance residents can help direct those policy decisions by offering their thoughts and opinions based on local experiences or needs.”

The town hall meeting kicks off an Upper Peninsula tour for the House committee members that will include trips on June 27 to the Presque Isle Power Plant in Marquette, Tilden Mines in Empire, Verso Paper in Iron Mountain and a round table meeting with area businesses.

For more information about the energy town hall forum contact McBroom’s office at 1-855-DIST-108. People unable to attend the meeting can submit comments by email to edmcbroom@house.mi.gov.
