Houghton Co. Master Plan moves forward

Only one step remains in the process of updating the Houghton County Master Plan.

The Planning Commission voted to adopt the revised Land Use Plan and send it to the Board of Commissioners.

Jonathon Leinonen was absent and Anton Pintar abstained but the rest of the board voted in favor of the resolution.

Pintar said he didn’t believe he could vote on the same proposal twice and he is expected to vote as a member of the Board of Commissioners.

A public hearing was held before the meeting but despite several objections earlier in the year…those that spoke yesterday had only praise for the efforts of the committee.

Opponents had argued that the plan could lead to county-wide zoning and a loss of personal property rights.

The Planning Commission worked to come up with a version of the plan that satisfied these concerns.

The Board is expected to take a final vote to adopt the plan at their July meeting.
