New Company Enters MTEC SmartZone

The Copper Country has a new face in town in business, and it’s a big one.
Dematic is a $1.2 billion logistics company opening a satellite engineering office inside the MTEC SmartZone in Houghton.
Their main office is in Luxembourg but their North American headquarters is in Grand Rapids.
Their customers include major corporations like Amazon, Walmart, and Coca-Cola.
Dematic employs about 4,000 worldwide and more than 1,000 in Michigan.
By opening an office here, Dematic brings a dozen new jobs to begin with and they have plans to expand in the future.
They will work with Michigan Tech students in areas of mechanical, software, and electrical engineering.
The MTEC SmartZone provides Dematic with the office space and a gateway into the Copper Country to take advantage of the area’s resources.
