The breezy conditions today were perfect for the observance of flag day.
Red, white and blue American flags were waving throughout many Upper Michigan communities today to mark the occasion.

The second Continental Congress officially adopted the U.S. flag 235 years ago today, June 14th, 1777.
President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in 1916 that established June 14th as flag day.
And the observance of national flag day was established by congress in 1949.
However, it is not an official federal holiday.
